Cusquenian Carnival
Typical festivity characterized by the
richness and variety of its dances, the singularity of its customs, like yunzas or cortamontes, and wide-spread playing with water, talc and mixes. Near the carnivals, taking place in various mountain locations, are celebrations of godfathers and godmothers.
The carnivals throughout the Sacred Valley of the Incas (Festivities in Písac, Coya, Calca and Urubamba), are typical, as well as those in the Southern Valley (San Jeronimo, Oropesa and Canchis, where the famous red Carnival is danced, quite remarkable for they beauty of its dress). The celebration of carnivals in the Andes at the same time is the opportunity to initiate romantic relationships.
