EMUFEC, Cusco’s Festivities Municipal Enterprise
, is managed by the Municipality of the Cusco Province. It was created according to Municipal Agreement 086/MC-SG-87 of October 26th, 1987, and its mandate broadened by Municipal Agreements 033 and 036 of March 15th and 21st, 1993 respectively.

EMUFEC is a public organization, responsible for planning and enacting Cusco’s calendar of traditional and non traditional celebrations, as well as supporting a variety of cultural events and shows, and promoting the city’s image both at home and abroad.

The organisation’s work includes the direct promotion of tourism, the outstanding action in this realm being the annual re-enactment of the INTI RAYMI ceremony, whose ritual is considered to be one of the world’s most important traditional celebrations today. In its promotional work, EMUFEC unfolds integral promotion strategies and a policy of access to information, working with the private sector and various civil society institutions.

EMUFEC, plans, organizes and hosts the key celebrations contained in Cusco’s Calendar of Traditional Events (traditional fêtes: Carnivals, Easter, Cruz Velakuy, Corpus Christi, the jubilee month of Cusco Celebrations in June, Independence day, and Cusqueñan Christmas, or Santurantikuy.

INTI RAYMI, the Inca celebration of the Sun staged each June 24th, is the flag-ship event of Cusco’s celebrations and characterises Peru internationally, being its most symbolic and characteristic ancestral celebration.

EMUFEC’s challenge consists in gathering and articulating the diversity of Cusco, presenting it from various perspectives in an attractive and integrated message, where Peruvian culture is reflected, and at the same time becomes a show-case to the world.
